Create an Instant Garden w/ Mound Beds!

Program Description:

Creating a garden bed for growing plants and veggies doesn’t have to be complicated or time consuming. Mound gardens, loosely based on indigenous planting methods and ancient midden (or trash heap) gardens, are quick, easy, and fun to make. Students will learn about planting seeds while creating their own mound gardens at the BRG Garden in Pelham. Each student will come home with their very own seed pot to keep growing at home!

Wheat, Weaving & Wheels

Program Description:

In this full day program geared toward ages 10+, Fabric of Life and Build Repair Grow are joining forces to explore how wheat can be ground using a bicycle powered grain mill, and cooked into bread, pizza dough, and other treats using different outdoor cooking methods. We’ll also explore how wheat can be used for fiber and woven into cloth.

Program Description:

Cooking is all about having fun with flavors and exploring which ones play well together. Join us for a morning of harvesting, tasting, and cooking party at BRG with Stone Soup Café Chef Kirsten Levitt.Kirsten has been a chef for more than 30 years. She has been an elementary school teacher, a singer of songs, and a gardener. She co-founded the Stone Soup Café in 2011 with Ariel Pliskin. Feeding her community is her passion – hard work is heart work for her.
Kirsten blends her knowledge of world cuisine to create delicious meals every Saturday at Stone Soup Café in Greenfield. Every week she teaches volunteers about food safety, knife skills, food uses, and cooking skills.

Learn Carpentry Skills at The Brick House!

Program Description:

Help build benches and planters for the front patio of the building while learning to measure, cut, sand and assemble a project.
Please bring water and snacks. All students must wear close-toed shoes. Please dress appropriately for the weather!

Free! Space is limited to 8 students per age group.

Carpentry Workshop with Freedge

Program Description:

Have you ever heard of a Community Freedge? A Freedge is a mutual aid project of food sharing on a neighborhood level. [Give – Take – Share model]

BRG is partnering with Freedge to build a shed/pantry to house the free fridge and provide shelf space for non-perishable items. Join us for this incredible youth workshop — building food access spaces in community!

3-Day Carpentry Workshop

Program Description:

Calling all budding builders & creators! You are invited to join us for an epic Farm Stand build, where we will use tools, hard work, and ingenuity to craft an entire building in this 3-day youth workshop. Like a shed in many ways, this farm stand features all the challenges of constructing a simple structure. Earth to sky, we’ll be doing it all: framing, measuring, cutting, siding, hanging doors, roofing, and more! Fun, safety, and cultivating a love for learning & building are our guiding stars as we collaboratively work together to create something big and awesome!
Please bring water and snacks. All students must wear close-toed shoes. Please dress appropriately for the weather!

ABCs of Bike Repair

Program Description:

At this Bike Repair Workshop participants will learn how to check the ABCs of bike repair — a foundational safety check that you want to do before each ride. Students will also learn how to replace and patch a tube on a bike wheel and we’ll go over the basic repair tools for fixing a flat tire.

Bike wheels, tires, tubes, and tools will be provided. Feel free to bring your own bikes with flat tires to repair at the workshop!
